pitch is the bogeyman, he's been in stories for as long as there have been stories. the only thing i would like to avoid is specific mention of the movie or books.

technically pitch is already possessed? it's complicated. he's also not entirely corporeal at this point.

Pitch Black is a spirit. And not just any spirit, but the Bogeyman specifically. (He prefers Nightmare King.) He and spirits of similar kind must be believed in to be seen. However, unlike other spirits with the same predicament in his world, most people can hear him, even if they cannot see him. This only applies to humans and once-humans that still have a body (vampires, werewolves, etc.). Other spirits/demi-gods will be able to see, hear, and interact with Pitch normally. Here are categories your character may fall in to regarding Pitch:
It should be noted that ɴᴏɴ-ʙᴇʟɪᴇᴠᴇʀs can become ʙᴇʟɪᴇᴠᴇʀs. Conversely, ʙᴇʟɪᴇᴠᴇʀs can also become ɴᴏɴ-ʙᴇʟɪᴇᴠᴇʀs. In Pitch's case, those who are completely unafraid may not see him/interact with him, depending on their mood. The happier someone is, or the less afraid specifically of Pitch Black/the Bogeyman, the more likely they will be unable to interact with him at all. ("unafraid of" here meaning 'think they are completely impervious to Pitch and his influence').
abilities ♞
Being the Bogeyman, and more specifically a being possessed of creatures called fearlings, Pitch has several abilities that may affect your character. They include the following:
I will not use any of these save for 'sensing fear' without asking prior, and there's a place on the form below to opt out of anything. Thanks for reading this far, and please fill out the form so no toes are crossed and no lines stepped on. comments are screened!

level of belief: (unafraid nonbeliever, nonbeliever, half-believer, believer)
why that level? my character isn't afraid of anything/doesn't believe in spirits OR my character is a firm believer in the bogeyman, etc.
is it acceptable for pitch to sense when your character is afraid? yes/no
if no, why not? let me know if you're not comfortable with pitch knowing if your character afraid or not, or if there's an ic reason for him not to know; i.e., your character has a very strong telepathic shield. (just so i know whether to avoid the conversation entirely or not)
what is your character's deepest fear(s)? if your character has several strong fears, feel free to put all of them. if not, just the one they feel the most strongly is fine too. and if they're not afraid of anything at all, you can put that as well.
is it acceptable for pitch to use that against them if it comes up? i will always ask either way, but if you're not oocly comfortable with me using a character's fear(s) against them, that's fine! you can just put no; i won't ask, and i'll make sure it doesn't come up icly.

This only applies to humans and once-humans that still have a body (vampires, werewolves, etc.). Other spirits/demi-gods will be able to see, hear, and interact with Pitch normally. Here are categories your character may fall in to regarding Pitch:
ᴜɴᴀғʀᴀɪᴅ ɴᴏɴ-ʙᴇʟɪᴇᴠᴇʀ: those who are particularlystupidbrave or hard to scare will not be able to see nor hear pitch. please keep in mind pitch can interact with physical objects, and characters will be able to see any such interaction, even if they do not see the source. they will also be able to see texts/e-mails/text posts/writing from him. ᴜɴᴀғʀᴀɪᴅ ɴᴏɴ-ʙᴇʟɪᴇᴠᴇʀs will be able to hear pitch while they are afraid.
ɴᴏɴ-ʙᴇʟɪᴇᴠᴇʀ: the average person. this includes everyone who has a normal fear tolerance, up to people with severe anxiety. this average joe does not believe in the bogeyman, whether unaware or having dismissed the notion of such a being. they can hear pitch, but cannot see him. depending on their general anxiety level, or even how scared they are at the time, hearing pitch may be anything from an indistinct whisper that incites uncertainty, to hearing his voice as clearly as a person standing next to them.
ʜᴀʟғ-ʙᴇʟɪᴇᴠᴇʀ: this is a person who believes that there is one spirit who embodies everything that goes bump in the night, or personifies fear, but not the bogeyman specifically. they will be able to hear pitch and, depending on how strongly they believe in that thing, may be able to only sense his presence, see him as a shadow, or see him in their peripheral vision.
ʙᴇʟɪᴇᴠᴇʀ: this character believes in pitch black specifically; or at least the bogeyman or their world's equivalent. it is not enough to believe in santa, the easter bunny, the tooth fairy or even the sandman. they must believe in the bogeyman/an equivalent. it should also be noted that he is not a demon or anything of the sort, so believing in that will do your character no good insofar as seeing pitch. the ʙᴇʟɪᴇᴠᴇʀ can see, hear, and interact with pitch.
They include the following:
ɪɴғʟᴜᴇɴᴄɪɴɢ ғᴇᴀʀ: pitch can influence fear by speaking to your character, even if your character cannot see him. he can mostly control just how afraid your character becomes from general nervousness to sheer terror, but there are occasional reactions he can't predict.
sᴇɴsɪɴɢ ғᴇᴀʀ: pitch can sense when someone is afraid. for him, sensing fear is both emotional and mental image. depending on the strength of the fear, he will see anything from muted colors (mild anxiety) to clear flashes of what your character is afraid of, or even memories tied to the specific fear (panic/terror). along with it will come an electric sort of feeling, anything from a very mild undercurrent to a persistent buzz.
ᴏᴍɴɪsᴄɪᴇɴᴄᴇ ᴏғ ᴅᴇᴇᴘᴇsᴛ ғᴇᴀʀ: "that's the one thing i always know". in general, pitch will always know what someone is afraid of, and especially what they are most afraid of. however, if you are not comfortable with this, there will be an opt-out below (or feel free to pm me).
ɴɪɢʜᴛᴍᴀʀᴇ sᴀɴᴅ: like dreamsand, but unpleasant. nightmare sand can put a character to sleep, and it will cause nightmares in doing so. it can also cause nightmares if a character is already asleep. nightmares can be of pitch's choosing or may just be a twisting of whatever is on the character's mind at the time.
I will not use any of these save for 'sensing fear' without asking prior, and there's a place on the form below to opt out of anything. Thanks for reading this far, and please fill out the form so no toes are crossed and no lines stepped on. comments are screened!
